Bloomberg News published an exceptional piece on how monopolistic hospital chains are using their political leverage to drive up medical costs for everyone. The example Ms. Pettypiece investigates is cardiologists, but the dynamic works in exactly the same way in neurology and all other specialties.
RNI is committed to remaining independent in order to provide better care to our patients, but it is stunning how this independence protects our patients from artificially inflated bills from hostpital-owned doctors. As the piece states, the cost for an identical service can be as much as three times higher. That’s enough to really harm patients, both with copays now and higher monthly premiums down the road.
